Puppy Hiatus

In January, for the fist time in months, it rained.  I don’t mean just a little sprinkle.  It rained good old fashioned toad strangler of a rain.  It so happened that I also had to pick up my grandson at school.  I learned something that day.  It seems the shiny red paint denoting the fire lane is slippery when wet.  I stepped off the edge of the sidewalk while trying to protect Bradley from the rain and moving cars in the driveway.  When my foot hit the red stripe of paint it was as if I had stepped on wet ice.  Not a pretty site.

As on lookers watched in shocked faces, I fell hard to the sidewalk, scraping both knees (one of which had two previous surgeries), twisting my already bum ankle, and scraping up the palms of both hands.  Over the next few days the extent of the injuries from the fall began to show.  Bruises, cuts, sore muscles and joints in my arms, shoulders and that knee.

After about a week the swelling went down, the stiffness eased and cuts and bruises went away.  I thought I was home free and was going to be back to myself.  Not even close.

It seems you are only allowed so many injuries of such nature, noticed or not, to your shoulders.  The more you do, the sooner you find out.  I found out.  On my left shoulder I ended up having surgery to correct and repair damage from a lifetime of activities that included everything from skiing to dune buggy riding.  That last fall was just too much.  It ripped a tendon, and did some other damage.  My arm was not very useful.  It hurt more often then not, and actually kept me awake at night.

The surgery was painful, and so is the recovery and physical therapy.  At least I can sleep at night.  When I am able to pick up puppies again, we will start fostering again.  I sure miss those little guys!  It has been 10 days and I am able to type, but only for short periods.

Puppies and Kittens

That was fast!  Within a couple of days, all the kittens and the sweet poodle mix were all adopted.  The great family who adopted Curly Sue sent this update.

Three puppies on the bed.
